Files you download from the Internet are often compressed or zipped so that they take up less space and arrive much faster than files that haven’t been compressed. You can easily identify compressed files by their extensions, such as .zip (a common standard used in OS X and Windows). Before you can use these files, you must unzip them. To do so:

1. Double click the file you have just downloaded with .zip extension.
  • If you have Windows and do not already have a program on your computer for unzipping files, you can download 7-Zip here FREE: http://www.7-zip.org/. install the app, then right-click on the zip file.

  • If you have an Apple computer, Apple used to include a program called StuffIt Expander to decompress zipped files, but doesn’t now that OS X lets you unzip files.

    2. Find the folder where the files were unzipped. It will typically be called the same thing as the .zip file (but without the .zip extension) and be located in the same location where the .zip file was downloaded.
  • To unzip files on an iPad, you will need to download an app from the iTunes app store such as the FileBrowser app and follow the instructions inside the app.
If you have audio or video files on your computer, you can import them into iTunes so they appear in your iTunes library. Add items from your computer to your iTunes library Do either of the following:

  • Drag a file or folder from the Finder to the iTunes window. If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.

  • In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.

  • By default, iTunes places a copy of each audio file in the iTunes folder (Home/Music/iTunes) and leaves the original file in the current location. For information about adding an alias to the file (instead of creating a copy), see Change where your iTunes files are stored.
You can share your digital products across your devices by using iCloud Drive, Handoff, or Airdrop. However, if you are unable to access those applications, please visit this documentation from Apple regarding File Sharing.
